Sophie Hiroko | Cedar Sessions Residency

$5.00-$50.00 | 6:30 Doors | 7 PM Show | Cedar Lounge
Riding a wave of generational change in the city’s music scene, Duluth’s Sophie Hiroko began writing songs as a teenager and found an audience last summer. In the fall, she recruited bassist Ned Netzel and drummer Tommy Kishida to help transform her songs into a fully formed sound that falls into the self-described genre of “tender bubblegrunge.” Kishida is leaving the band before Homegrown, but Leif Hinkel has stepped in to take over the drums. George Ellsworth was recently added on keys. Hiroko’s lyrics reflect the experience of “coming of age in Duluth as a queer woman, and coming from a multi-cultural family,” she said.

Indecent Proposal | Superior Soundcheck Series

Our Indecent Proposal is to wholeheartedly embrace the essence of who you truly are without the weight of fitting the form. We propose to let go of expectations and bring love, respect, individuality, and courage to the floor. Be yourself, and be indecent.

Tired Eyes | Neil Young Tribute

$10.00-$60.00 | 7 PM Doors | 8 PM Show | Fest Grounds
Stalwarts of frayed future harmonics scour the Neil Young catalog and resuscitate all that is immense therein, calling themselves Tired Eyes (after a deep cut from 1975’s Tonight’s the Night). You know them already as Alan Sparhawk (Low/Black Eyed Snakes), Rich Mattson (Ol’ Yeller/Northstars), Glen Mattson (Lazer Bear/IROB), and Kraig Johnson (Run Westy Run/Jayhawks/Golden Smog). The newspapers say that Tired Eyes “isn’t just grabbing the AM gold hits from Harvest, but focusing on the genre-defying classic-era Crazy Horse lineup. They drive home this point by taking their name from one of Young’s darker songs. ‘Heart of Gold,’ this is not."
