Rock-and-roll vagabond Ian Alexy moved to Duluth 20 years ago and launched a music career performing in a variety of Americana and folk bands — including Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank with his brother Teague. The group recorded five albums, toured the nation and scored a hit in Green Bay Packerland with the song “Old Number Four.” A 2008 move to the Twin Cities saw the formation of Ian Alexy and the Deserters where his songwriting expanded into funk, rock and world music. Now back in Duluth, Alexy is a member of the group Babie Eyes.

The graphic artist behind Šek Design Studio and DLH Clothing writes songs that are woven into a blend of genres. Dave Simonett and Dave Carroll, of Trampled by Turtles, are playing a rare duo show. Simonett is TBT’s lead vocalist/guitarist, while Dave Carroll accompanies him on banjo and harmony vocals. The duo plays an assortment of songs spanning Trampled By Turtles, Dave Simonett’s solo work, some choice cover songs and more. || RICH MATTSON || Rich Mattson has been a musician and songwriter for more than 40 years, performing in Minnesota bands such as the Glenrustles, Ol' Yeller and the Tisdales. In the past decade, he's been collaborating with his partner Germaine Gemberling, who shares center stage and vocal work with him in the Northstars.

Local Twin Ports indie-grunge-pop artist Sophie Hiroko and band open the show. || ANCIENT WAVES || In 2019 he formed the band Jarad Miles & the Ancient Waves (formerly Featherbed) with local bassist Andy Nail and drummer Ed Draper, and later joined by guitarist Andrew Berg. They began playing shows in early 2020; sharing bills with local bands Little Fevers, Pleasure Horse, and Battlerat. They had studio dates to begin recording a new full-length record on the weekend of March 14 just as the pandemic hit full force.

Award-winning Duluth musician, author, and storyteller Teague Alexy is probably best known for his Americana songwriting in the national touring brothers duo Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank. Teague’s songwriting is clearly influenced by his home in Minnesota as well as his childhood in New Jersey and life as a travelling musical hobo. Teague's storytelling side has deeper roots to his Irish ancestry. The name ‘Teague’ was once used to describe the storytelling poets who travelled ancient Ireland.

Mahtowa-based singer/guitarist Colleen Myhre put out a note to the world in 2019 with the release of the album Boss Mama. In the lower right corner of the album cover are the words “just getting started.” Though she’d been performing for more than 20 years, she was indeed just getting started. Collaborations with a slew of the region’s musicians led to the gradual and seemingly ongoing formation of Boss Mama and the Jebberhooch, a band that pushes Myhre’s country soul to new levels with deep grooves and a visible sense of joy.

Soulful melodies and catchy lyrics blend nicely along with McKeon's unique guitar works. Making for an interesting listen in the realm of classic country and folk.. || KELLEY SMITH || Folksinger-songwriter Kelley Smith is a hopeless romantic who fancies old poetry and grandpa sweaters. All at once whimsical and haunting, Smith delivers deeply affecting lyrics with wry charm and a time traveler's voice. Prone to melancholy and daydreaming, Kelley spent her childhood roaming the woods of Minnesota and singing to forest animals. To this day, her longing for that landscape runs deep and seems to find its way into her songs in one way or another.

“Misisipi” Mike Wolf is a traditional folk and country singer/songwriter who performs both solo and in enough bands to fill a summer music festival lineup. He writes songs with the same heart and humor as greats like John Prine, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. Wolf recently won first place in the Duluth Dylan Fest songwriters contest and holds down weekly residencies throughout the Twin Ports, most recently at the Cedar Lounge. His local band projects include Boxcar, Neatneatneat, Actual Wolf, Crooked Mile and Eldri Snow’s Wintry Mix.

Thomas Sticha is a songwriter and country/folk artist that knows how to tell a gosh-darn story. His debut single, “Then It’s Gone,” released in early 2024, and it’s sure to get stuck in your head. With his thoughtful songwriting and thoroughly charming live shows, his music comments beautifully on the triumphs and struggles of simply being human. Thomas performs frequently in and around the Midwest - both solo and with his band - and has plenty of aspirations for the years ahead.

Rock-and-roll vagabond Ian Alexy moved to Duluth 20 years ago and launched a music career performing in a variety of Americana and folk bands — including Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank with his brother Teague. The group recorded five albums, toured the nation and scored a hit in Green Bay Packerland with the song “Old Number Four.” A 2008 move to the Twin Cities saw the formation of Ian Alexy and the Deserters where his songwriting expanded into funk, rock and world music. Now back in Duluth, Alexy is a member of the group Babie Eyes.

Sonja Rebecca Martin is a singer/songwriter from Duluth, MN. She and her husband Lee Martin co-founded the folk group Feeding Leroy and have been writing and singing with the band since 2013. Sonja’s love of folk music has been influenced by, of course, Gillian Welch, as well as Kate Wolf, Sandy Denny, and Linda Ronstadt, among others. She loves to harmonize with other voices and find those close weavings of harmonies that you can feel in your bones.

Big Wave Dave and the Ripples is an eight-piece soul band with a full horn section that has torn up Twin Ports dance floors and summer stages for years. Now the wave is rolling across TV screens from coast to coast: These group backed longtime Rolling Stones musical director and keyboard player Chuck Leavell for a song during a taping of Leavell’s America’s Forests PBS-TV show in Duluth. The performance aired nationwide in 2023. Big Wave Dave is vocalist Dave Adams; the Ripples are Alex Nordehn, Alex Piazza, Peter Knutson, Brian Wells, David Rode, Matt Wasmund and Scott Millis.

Based out of Duluth, MN, The Brothers Burn Mountain are a soulful, energetic, eclectic duo of real-life brothers, Ryan and Jesse Dermody. They've been playing music together everyday as a duo for more than 16 years. They've released 8 full-length albums of original music, and have toured across the country over the years, though especially in the Midwest, having played more than 1,400 live shows. Though difficult to try and put their sound into words, some have called it avant-garde blues rock, though basically it is really just good-ol' rock n' roll with a very personal and strange twist of bluesy tastes.

Twin Ports singer/songwriter, band leader and multi instrumentalist Marc Gartman solo and acoustic, live and in person on the Cedar Lounge stage. Marc can often be found performing with the bands Coyote, Glitteratti, Damien, The Wandering Eye and Lazy Lightning 420.

The newspapers say that Tired Eyes “isn’t just grabbing the AM gold hits from Harvest, but focusing on the genre-defying classic-era Crazy Horse lineup. They drive home this point by taking their name from one of Young’s darker songs. ‘Heart of Gold,’ this is not."
